The Surrogate

As always, it was a pleasure to collaborate with the incomparable, Sky Macklay, on a short opera–the second in a series of operas initially inspired by the question, “Why do women have periods?”

The Surrogate explores the relationship between a woman with infertility, a potential surrogate, and their two uteri as they wait to find out if they are compatible. This workshop was cleverly staged and wonderfully performed by University of Illinois students as part as their final opera showcase.
